Threatt filling station
Standing as a powerful symbol of Black refuge, jubilation, and resilience, the Threatt Filling Station is the only documented Black filling station along Route 66.
Built in 1933 by Allen Threatt Sr., the historic Threatt Filling Station site served as a safe haven for Black travelers during the era of Jim Crow and sundown towns. We’re collaborating with the family to preserve its legacy while envisioning it’s future use as an interpretive center for visitors to enjoy and learn from.
